High Desert Martial Arts Grappling Program

Instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, "catch" Wrestling  and Judo-  A beginners to intermediate level program  which will involves drills to allow one to be accustomed to ground defensive and offensive skills.  Followed by takedowns into control positions.  Techniques included will be positioning, passes, counters, reversals, sweeps throws, transitions, and submissions.  Each belt level is approximately 6 months of full time attendance divided into three separate training emphasis.  Recommend participants regularity attend fitness classes.

Testing/promotion- proficiently demonstrate skills as listed for each stripe with a passive/dynamic opponent
 


Course Outline for Beginner Students


White Belt Level 1 Brazilian Jiujutsu Primer Requirements 2-4 months
Warm up drills proficiency
Spin on back drill
Guard/ mount/half guard demonstration/ understanding
Pass Guard to Knee on Stomach Mount (both sides from around legs)
Knee on stomach movement and balance drills 
Basic outside leg pass to knee on stomach to step behind head to unwinding drill
Basic pass to Knee on stomach to mount 
Mount to knee on stomach -and reversing 
Mount control (bucking) exercise

Split Passes (through center)
Passing guard into side control left/right - (4) passes
Bridge and roll - from mounted
Sweep from guard position (drill)
Breaking the guard (escaping) 2 escapes/reversals
Pass and mount directly from guard

Arm bar submission from knee on stomach
Arm bar from mount position
Spinning arm bar submission from knee on stomach
Trigger response drills


 White Belt Level 2 - Wrestling  Primer 2-4 months

Warm up drills proficiency
Wrist and arm control principals (label hold breaks)
Standing control (into takedown prep)
Arm drag (from double wrist grab/ neck and wrist grab)
Duck under (from double wrist grab/ neck and wrist grab)
Standing control onto Head Lead Ankle Pick
Standing control into single leg take down
Standing control into double leg take down

Base - top offensive actions - break downs:  (included but not limited to) Braking opponents base positions
    Knee to knee hip pull  in
    Near wrist grab pull and hip push fwd
    Cross face
Running in place to Sprawl and Spin into control breakdown drill
Base into stand up - bottom defensive actions
    (partner stays down : base - standup - trap hands - hip out - spin around)
    (partner goes up low hold : moving - arching - digging fingers to brake grip- escape)
    (partner goes up center hold : moving into standing switch)
    (partner goes up high hold: as partner rises go to roll)
Base - bottom defensive actions (included but not limited to)
    shoot fwd to prone and recover to base (hips up)
    partner follows fwd, escape out from under and behind - into control position
    partner stays - scoot fwd aggressively escaping grip - into standup
    roll (grab arm tuck and roll to the side)
    sit out to frontal escape
    sit out into switch
    sit out into roll over (granby) side roll

White Belt Level 3 - Judo Primer 2-4 months

Warm up drills proficiency
Standing Control - from Judo hold (label hold break drills)
    push and pull of upper body emphasis
Outside foot sweep drill (moving fwd /backward, left to right)

Judo takedown set - techniques performed individually against fwd leg exposed
    3 partner safety drill - emphasis on the technique set up and approach - minor on the actual throw
    leg whip throw from outside
    fwd near leg sweep from inside
    sa sai sweep
    step behind- leg scissors takedown or pick up & dump.
Judo takedown set alternate sides (static)
Trigger response drills - Reaction set (dynamic movements)

Standing Control into (step in and position importance) Push and pull set ups
Hip toss (step in, grab belt, hip to hip below belt w/knees bent - toss)
Head and Arm hip toss
Bicep/tricep Arm control hip toss
Uniform/lapel hip toss
Fireman's toss (same side and side opposite leg hold)
Head in chest Leg Hooks take down (both sides) reach arms around waist
Head and arm into leg hook whip
Backward roll toss - butt under and near legs, feet on hip/thigh
Sa Sai toss - falling rolling backward and turning - into a throwing action

Standing control into Extended leg throw - Pull and push set up

Pin series - Hold downs -Pass to knee on stomach to hip control most basic pin set
control hips - hip to hip, facing towards his upper body
side control - drop hand behind collar, chest to chest
reverse scarf hold - hand under arm
four corner hold - hand over shoulder and under arm to clinch behind back

unwinding drill (wall or partner)
base sit out - alternate sides
base stand up and pivot - back to base - alternate sides
sprawl spin on base (partner)
crab walk (hips up)
Low walking stance (extended knee and hips to spread opponents legs for entry)
Frog walk (legs out to side)
surfer pull (and soldier crawl - front/back)
Running in place into sprawl (also sprawl and spin)
Rolls: Forward., backward, sideways
Falls : Front, back, side
Sit up to gueotine/or belt hold ( at small of back)
Sit ups to Komura hold (both sides)
Students will be exposed to approximately 100 drills and variations.  The intent is for extensive drill repetition which  develops timing, trigger response, smoothness and proficiency under active stressful/dynamic training conditions.
